Greenock Creek Apricot Block Shiraz 2022 Barossa Valley is a powerful, age-worthy Australian Shiraz from 1995 vines on a former apricot orchard slope featuring silty, sandy loam over flint and quartz. This exceptional terroir produces a wine marked by powerful tannins that will reward 10–20 years' cellaring, making it ideal for collectors and enthusiasts seeking premium Barossa Shiraz online in Australia.
The 2022 blend matured in carefully selected oak: French oak (30% new, tight-grained) for fruit from the top section of the vineyard, and American oak (10% new) for the bottom section. This dual-oak approach enhances the wine's complexity whilst respecting the distinctive character imparted by the unique flint and quartz-laden soils.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Deep ruby-crimson with excellent colour intensity and viscosity, displaying the concentrated nature and full-bodied structure characteristic of premium Barossa Shiraz.
Aroma
The nose reveals layers of dark berries, blackberry, and plum, complemented by notes of baking spices, cedar, and subtle earthy minerality from the flint and quartz soils.
Palate
Full-bodied and powerful, the palate delivers concentrated dark fruit with blackberry, black cherry, and plum flavours. The wine's defining feature is its powerful, structured tannins that provide excellent framework for extended cellaring. Oak influence adds complexity with cedar and vanilla notes, whilst the unique terroir contributes savoury minerality and depth. The finish is long, firm, and persistent.
Pairs With
This cellar-worthy Barossa Shiraz pairs beautifully with slow-roasted lamb shoulder with rosemary, grilled ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce, braised venison with juniper berries, aged cheddar or Parmigiano-Reggiano, and rich game terrines.
